Coaches, will run opposed and unopposed drills during the tryout to evaluate players on first touch, dribbling technique, footwork/ball manipulation competence, finishing, etc.
Tactical / Game Play Evaluation

Players  Families will receive email notifications after the tryouts regarding tryout results / team placement.
NOTE: Tryout player evaluations will take place before current coach feedback (for current GU, Thunder, or GSA players only) being submitted/evaluated.

Tryout FAQ’s

  • No membership is needed to tryout/ Greenwich United tryouts are held during practice times and there is no cost to tryout.

Does my child need to tryout if he / she currently plays on a GU team?

  • Yes all players tryout each year. We have multiple teams at every age level and player movement between teams based on player development happens each year.

Does my child need to attend both tryouts?

  • To give your player the best opportunity to showcase their abilities players should attend both tryouts. If unable to please email when registering in addition to notifying the coach upon checking in at the tryout.

What should my player wear / bring to tryouts?

  • Players should wear a white tee in addition to usual soccer attire. Please bring ample water supply.

How many teams will be formed?

  • Team numbers are the function of the number and quality of the players trying out. We will form teams that numbers allow that we feel are able to be competitive in either an EDP or CJSA league. We have at least two teams at each age / gender within the club and three in some.

When will we receive tryout results?

  • It is our aim to communicate all tryout results within 48 hours of the final tryout for the age group. We will send all info and ask for a response in a similar timeframe.
