Overview

Tryouts will be held in late April/ Early May for the 24/25  season.

Greenwich United will form Girls and Boys Teams with multiple levels at each age group. Please see age listing below for the 24/25 Season.

U12 – Players Born in 2013

U13 – Players Born in 2012 

U14 – Players Born in 2011 

U15 – Players Born in 20010 

U16 – Players Born in 2009

Greenwich United Tryout Process:

Over two 90-minute tryout sessions, players will be evaluated on the criteria below by the Greenwich United coaching staff.

Each player will be evaluated in multiple gameplay/drill scenarios with ample opportunities to show their current skill level and to be matched to a developmentally appropriate level of team.

Technical Evaluation
Coaches, will run opposed and unopposed drills during the tryout to evaluate players on first touch, dribbling technique, footwork/ball manipulation competence, finishing, etc. 
Tactical / Game Play Evaluation
  Game understanding in small-sided (4v4) and mid-size ( 8v8+).
Players  Families will receive email notifications after the tryouts regarding tryout results / team placement.
NOTE: Tryout player evaluations will take place before current coach feedback (for current GU, Thunder, or GSA players only) being submitted/evaluated. 

Tryout FAQ’s

Do I need an OGRCC Membership to tryout? 

  • No membership is needed to tryout/ Greenwich United tryouts are held during practice times and there is no cost to tryout. 

Does my child need to tryout if he / she currently plays on a GU team? 

  • Yes all players tryout each year. We have multiple teams at every age level and player movement between teams based on player development happens each year. 

Does my child need to attend both tryouts? 

  • To give your player the best opportunity to showcase their abilities players should attend both tryouts. If unable to please email when registering in addition to notifying the coach upon checking in at the tryout.

What should my player wear / bring to tryouts? 

  • Players should wear a white tee in addition to usual soccer attire. Please bring ample water supply. 

How many teams will be formed?

  • Team numbers are the function of the number and quality of the players trying out. We will form teams that numbers allow that we feel are able to be competitive in either an EDP or CJSA league. We have at least two teams at each age / gender within the club and three in some. 

When will we receive tryout results? 

  • It is our aim to communicate all tryout results within 48 hours of the final tryout for the age group. We will send all info and ask for a response in a similar timeframe.
